MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages)


MA in TESOL is a full-time/ part-time program for professionals in ELT or anyone interested in ELT career, and is intended for aspiring and for practicing teachers of English to upgrade their professional skills and classroom practice. The program focuses on training teachers of English for Teaching Speakers of Other Languages to acquire knowledge and competence in teaching both adult and young learners. The curriculum emphasizes a practice-based approach to TESOL. The only TESOL program in Bangladesh with two Teaching Practicum courses that train students in classroom teaching at different levels, starting from Primary to Tertiary.

Admission Requirements

Applicants should have a four-year BA degree with a minimum of second class in English/Education/Linguistics, or relevant subject and at least 2.5 at every level of education. Those with three-year degree must have two years’ experience of teaching. 

Applicants’ proficiency in English will be assessed through a placement test and interview.

Admission Test
  • All candidates are required to appear in the Admission Test.
  • All BRACU graduates having a CGPA 3.00 or above are exempted from the written admission test.*
Fields for Exemption from Test**:

Applicants of MA TESOL will get exemption from the written test if they have the following GRE/GMAT/TOEFL/IELTS scores :

Graduate Record Examination (GRE):
Earlier/Old GRE: 450 verbal/550 analytical/650 quantitative
Revised GRE: 300 total for combined Verbal and Quantitative scores
Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT):
560 total for combined scores
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):
580 (Paper-based test) or 240 (Computer based test) or 94 (Internet based test - iBT)
International English Language Testing System (IELTS):
Overall band score of 7.0, with sub scores of 6.0 each

[GRE/GMAT scores are considered valid for 5 (five) years and IELTS/TOEFL for 2 (two) years after the test date]

* & ** Appearing in the interview is mandatory for these applicants.

3-phase Degree: Certificate, Diploma, and Degree

Weekend classes: Thursday to Saturday: 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm

For students with 3 year degree in English or equivalent in any other discipline  with 2 years teaching experience                      =  48 credits
